Background
I designed this chair during my undergraduate Industrial Design program at Pratt Institute. I worked on the chair for one semester.

I began with 2D and 3D sketches. I also used CAD software (Alias) to quickly model concepts.

My original plan was to build the design shown above. The seat, however, required a steam-bending process that I did not have time for, so I pivoted to a simple design.

The simple solution was attaching a weave of parachute straps to the frame. Viola!

This photo shows the chair being exhibited with other work from Pratt alumni – past and present – at a show called Third + Bond.
Next Steps
If I were to continue this project, I would try to re-create the original design with the slatted wood seat.
